3 Probation/parole supervision

  Of persons placed under probation/parole supervision (excluding short-term probation for traffic offenses and short-term probation; hereinafter the same in this subsection), the number of those classified as “persons with mental disorders, etc.” under the categorized treatment system (See (3) of Subsection 2, Section 2, Chapter 5, Part 2 and (2) of Subsection 2, Section 6, Chapter 2, Part 4) as of December 31, 2008 was 1,737 (down 1.2% from the same date of the previous year) and the percentage among probationers/parolees was 4.0% (Source: The Rehabilitation Bureau, Ministry of Justice). Probation offices provide advice to these probationers/parolees to ensure that they are provided with appropriate medical and welfare treatment in light of their mental condition, and also cooperate with medical/welfare institutions and their families.
