3 Disciplinary punishment of elderly inmates

  Fig. 7-4-1-2 shows the percent distribution of number of disciplinary punishments against elderly inmates. During the period of admission to and release from penal institutions, the percent ratio of those who did not receive disciplinary punishments was 63.9% among elderly inmates and 49.7% among non-elderly inmates. Compared to non-elderly inmates, only a small number of elderly inmates had committed disciplinary offenses and thus were subject to disciplinary punishment and many lead lives complying with the penal institution rules.
