2 Revocation of suspension of execution of sentence

Table 3-5-2-2 shows the number of offenders who had their suspension of execution of sentence revoked, by reason, over the last 10 years.
In 2007, 6,855 offenders had their suspension of execution of sentence revoked, and 6,436 (93.9%) of them were for new convictions to imprisonment without work or greater punishment for a repeat offense.
Since the persons who were granted suspension of execution of sentence in a given year and those whose suspension of execution of sentence were revoked in that year are of two different target groups, it is not possible to calculate the revocation rate in a strict sense. However, by finding out the ratio of the latter to the former, it is possible to observe a rough trend of revocation of suspension of execution of sentence for that year. In 2007, the percentage of those who had their suspension of execution of sentence revoked to the total number of those granted suspensions (D/A %) was 14.7%. By type of offense for which suspension of execution of sentence was granted (limited to offenses for which 100 persons or more had been granted suspension of execution of sentence), the ratio was highest for Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Act violations with 52.6%, followed by for Stimulants Control Act violations with 26.5%, and for theft with 26.1% (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Prosecution).
