3 Disposition by courts

  Fig. 1-3-1-6 shows the percent distribution of the term of imprisonment (with or without work) for dangerous driving causing death or injury, negligence in vehicle driving/negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and violations of road traffic related acts, in the court of first instance in 2007.
  Among persons sentenced to imprisonment with or without work, the percentage of unsuspended imprisonment with or without work was 35.7% for dangerous driving causing death or injury, 12.7% for negligence in vehicle driving/negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and 25.6% for violations of road traffic related acts. Among 138 persons who were not granted suspension of execution of sentence for dangerous driving causing death or injury, persons sentenced to imprisonment with work for over 5 years were 32 (23.2%).

  In 2007, for negligence in vehicle driving/negligence in the pursuit of social activities and causing death or injury through negligence, 187 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 70,092 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure. For violations of road traffic related acts, 431 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 422,758 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
