Section 5  Relationship between the Victims and Suspects

Fig. 5-1-5-1 shows the percent distribution of cleared major offenses in 2006, by relationship between victims and suspects (excluding cases where it was confirmed as a result of investigation that the act in question did not constitute a crime or that the conditions for prosecution or punishment were not satisfied).
The ratio of homicide committed against perpetrator's relatives and acquaintances in the total homicide cases cleared is relatively high, while that of injury committed against their acquaintances and non-acquaintances in the total injury cases cleared is relatively high. Also, among property offenses, the ratio of extortion committed against perpetrators' acquaintances and non-acquaintances in the total extortion cases cleared was relatively high, while the rates of other property offenses and of sexual offenses committed against their non-acquaintances were generally high. However, among sexual offenses, the ratio of rape committed against perpetrators' acquaintances was also relatively high.
