Section 3  Property Damage

Table 5-1-3-1 shows the trends of reported offenses regarding property (robbery, extortion, theft, fraud, embezzlement and embezzlement of lost property) and the amount of property damage (including cases in which victims are corporations or other organizations and bodies) over the last 10 years.
Reviewing the trends over the last 10 years, both the number of reported property offenses and the amount of property damage were on an upward trend until 2002, but have been decreasing since 2003. By type of offense, the amount of damage by theft was largest in 2006, accounting for 67.8% of the total. The percentage of property damage by fraud was 24.9%, and that by embezzlement was 5.3%. The amount of damage in cash by fraud increased significantly in 2004, and in 2006, the amount accounted for 51.5% of the total.
