3 Fines

  Table 2-3-2-3 shows the sentencing of fines (excluding those imposed together with imprisonment with or without work; hereinafter the same in this sub-section.) in trials (ordinary trial procedure and summary trial procedure) in district, family and summary courts in 2006.
  Most of the persons sentenced to fine went through summary proceedings.
  In the case of summary trial procedure, a majority (79.2%) of those who were sentenced to fine in 2006 were for violations of road traffic related acts.
  In the case of ordinary trials, among persons sentenced to fine in district, family and summary courts in 2006, violations of road traffic related acts accounted for the largest portion at 20.8%. The numbers of those who were sentenced to fine of 1 million yen or more were 311 in district courts and 11 in summary courts (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
