Section 1  Reception of Suspected Cases

  Fig. 2-2-1-1 shows percent distribution of persons newly received by the public prosecutors office in 2006 by type of offense.
  In 2006, the total of persons newly received by the public prosecutors office decreased by 56,745 from the previous year. The number of those received for penal code offenses had been on an upward trend since 1998 but turned to decrease in 2005, further decreasing by 20,972 compared to the previous year in 2006. The number of those received for special act offenses has been on a decline in recent years, also decreasing by 35,773 from the previous year in 2006.
  Looking at penal code offenses, 374,424 persons (up by 2.8 % from the previous year) were received for non-traffic penal code offenses. There was an increase in dangerous driving causing death or injury (up by 19.3% (id.)) and public indecency (up by 17.1% (id.)), while a significant decrease in counterfeiting of currencies (down by 59.5% (id.)), robbery (down by 12.7% (id.)), and extortion (down by 11.5% (id.)). 861,173 persons were received for negligence in the pursuit of social activities in traffic accidents (down by 3.5% (id.)).
  Looking at special act offenses, 710,874 persons were received for violations of road traffic related acts (down by 5.1% (id.)) and 117,935 persons (up by 1.9% (id.)) for special act offenses excluding violations of road traffic related acts (see Appendix 2-1).
