Section 1  Offenses Committed by Japanese Nationals Outside Japan

  The number of Japanese nationals traveling overseas increased by 131,000 persons (0.8%) from the previous year to 17,534,565 persons in 2006 (Source: The Immigration Bureau, the Ministry of Justice).
  According to data ascertained by diplomatic establishments abroad through their Japanese citizen protection service in 2006, offenses committed by Japanese nationals outside Japan increased by 2.7 % to 529 cases, and Japanese nationals offenders also increased by 1.0 % to 604 persons from the previous year.
  Table 1-5-1-1 shows the number of offenses committed by Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2006, by type of offense.
