Section 1  Reception of Suspected Cases

  Fig. 2-2-1-1 shows percent ratio of persons newly received by the public prosecutors office in 2005 by type of offense.
  In 2005, total persons newly received by the public prosecutors office decreased by 42,703 from the previous year. The number of those received for penal code offenses had been on an upward trend since 1998, but decreased by 14,027 from the previous year in 2005. The number of those for special act offenses has been on a decline, and decreased by 28,676 from the previous year in 2005.
  The number of persons received for non-traffic penal code offenses decreased by 0.7% to 364,267 compared to the previous year. There were significant increases for distribution of obscene objects (by 56.6% from 2004) and counterfeiting of currency (by 12.3%), while decreases were observed for arson (by 11.2%), embezzlement (including embezzlement of lost property) (by 10.4%), robbery (by 7.5%), and extortion (by 7.2%). The number of those received for negligence in the pursuit of social activities in traffic accidents was 892,302, a decrease of 1.2% from the previous year.
  Persons received for violations of road traffic related acts decreased by 4.4% from the previous year to 748,818, but those for special act offenses excluding violations of road traffic related acts increased by 4.9% to 115,764 from the previous year. There were significant increases for Waste Disposal Act violations (by 23.0% from 2004) and Stimulants Control Act violations (by 12.8%) (See Appendix 1-4 and 2-1).
