3 Correction

  Table2-6-1-4 shows the number of newly admitted inmates convicted of traffic offenses(unsafe driving resulting in death or injury,professional negligence,and Road Traffic Law violations;hereinafter the same in this Section)over the last10years.

Table2-6-1-4  Number of newly admitted inmates convicted of traffic offenses by type of offense and by term of imprisonment(1995-2004)

  Adult inmates convicted of traffic offenses are provided open treatment,if they are deemed suitable for open treatment and meet the following requirements:(i)they are not simultaneously serving a sentence of imprisonment with labor for any non-traffic offense;(ii)they have never been imprisoned for any non-traffic offense;(iii)term of sentence is about three months or more;and(iv)no physical or mental disorder is identified.Those traffic offenders are detained in designated facilities nationwide,including the Ichihara Prison,where in principle,living rooms,dining halls,and workshops are not locked,and treatment programs such as living guidance,academic education,vocational training,and traffic safety education are provided.
  In2004,the number of juveniles sent to training schools for unsafe driving resulting in death or injury were three,the same as in the previous year,while those for professional negligence decreased by9.6%to66,and those for Road Traffic Law violations decreased by21.2%to524(Source:Annual Report of Statistics on Correction).
  In penal institutions and juvenile training schools,lectures by crime victims,bereaved families,or persons of support organizations are provided as a part of education from victims'viewpoints.
