Fig. 4-1-4-5 shows the trends in cases of school violence cleared since 1993. Both the number of cleared cases and the number of juveniles cleared had increased since 1997, but both started to decrease from 2001 onward, and the number of cleared cases was 675 (down 20.4% from the previous year) and the number of juveniles cleared was 1,002 (down 23.7%) in 2002. The overwhelming majority of the number of juveniles cleared was made up of junior high school students in each year.
