Section 1 Number of Victims

   Fig. 3-1-1-1 shows the trends in the number of victims of general penal code offenses (excluding cases in which victims are corporations or groups and those in which there are no victims) and the damage rate (referred to as the number of victims per 100,000 persons) over the last 10 years since 1993. In 2002, the number of victims increased by 80,345 (3.3%) to 2,486,055 (1,651,056 of males and 834,999 of females) over the previous year. The overall damage rate was 1,950.8 (an increase of 60.9 from the previous year). By gender, it was 2,652.2 for males (an increase of 81.9), and 1,281.0 for females (an increase of 42.2). Both the number of victims and the damage rate have increased since 1997.
