1 Death penalty

   Table 2-3-3-1 shows the number of defendants sentenced to death in the ordinary first instance over the last 10 years, by type of offense. The number of the defendants sentenced to death was 18 in 2002, marking the highest in the last 10 years. Offenses subject to death penalty in 2002 were limited to homicide and robbery resulting in death (including homicide on the occasion of robbery). The percentage of the defendants sentenced to death in all defendants found guilty in 2002 was 1.5% for homicide and 4.9% for robbery resulting in death (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics and data by General Secretariat, Supreme Court).
