Section 1 Fatal and Bodily Damage

   Table 3-1-1-2 shows the trends in the number of victims who were killed or injured in penal code offenses reported by the police over the last 10 years since 1992 and the damage rate. The total number of the persons killed or injured was less than 30,000 until 1999. However, it exceeded 40,000 with a sharp increase in 2000, and became 45,777 in 2001. Especially, it is noted that persons slightly injured increased remarkably, and the damage rate rose 32.1 in 2001 from 18.1 in 1992.

   Fig. 3-1-1-3 shows the percent distribution by the persons killed or injured and by type of offense regarding the victims in 2001. Regarding the percent distribution by the persons killed or injured, the greatest percentage is 89.3% for persons slightly injured, and the second greatest percentage is 7.5% for persons severely injured, and 3.1% for persons killed. As for the details of the percent distribution of persons killed by type of offense, (1) about 50% (696 persons) comes under homicide, 345 persons under professional negligence, and 222 persons under bodily injury; (2) As for persons severely injured, the greatest percentage is 73.2% for bodily injury (2,515 persons); And (3) as for persons slightly injured, the greatest percentage is 85.7% (35,044 persons).
