Under the provisions of the Criminal Compensation Law, defendants who are found not guilty after being detained or kept in custody awaiting trial receive compensation in accordance with the length of detention or custody. Similarly, defendants who are found not guilty by re-trial after imprisonment following a final guilty judgment receive compensation in accordance with the length of imprisonment.
