1 Defendants finally judged by trial

   Table 2-3-2-1 shows the results of trials for offenders whose final judgments become final over the last 10 years.
  The number of defendants whose judgments became final in 2001 decreased by 19,778 (2.0%) from the previous year. Among them, 4 defendants were sentenced to death while 68 defendants were sentenced to imprisonment with labor for life, which shows a continuing increase in the number of defendants sentenced to imprisonment with labor for life since 1998. The number of defendants who were found not guilty was 44 (0.005% of the total).
