Section 5 Juridical Person for Offenders Rehabilitation Services

1 Overview

Juridical person for offenders rehabilitation services undertakes rehabilitation services and is established under license from the Minister of Justice, in line with the Law for Offenders Rehabilitation Services. There are three types of rehabilitation services: (1) continuous aid services, whereby halfway houses are established and accommodation is provided for residents to receive the necessary aid, (2) temporary aid services, whereby no accommodation is provided, but mediation in the place of next abode, monetary loans, life counseling, and other types of aid are carried out, and (3) liaison support services, undertaking liaison, support, etc. , for continuous aid services, temporary aid services, and other services whose purpose is to assist the rehabilitation of offenders. At present, there are no juridical persons for offenders rehabilitation services engaged only in temporary aid services, and many of them that carry out liaison support services also undertake temporary aid services in conjunction. Thus, juridical persons for offenders rehabilitation services can be broadly divided into those engaged in continuous aid services and those engaged in liaison support services.   As of April 1st, 2000, there were 164 juridical persons for offenders rehabilitation services. As well as these, there was also 1 organization engaged in rehabilitation services (liaison support services) under license from the Minister of Justice, even though not a juridical persons for offenders rehabilitation services.
