  As for the amount of bail paid in cases released on bail in 1998, the most common category was between 1 and 3 million yen with 6,502 defendants(83.0% of the 7,836 defendants released on bail), followed by amounts between 3 and 5 million yen with 839 (10.7%) (source:Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
