5 Other penal code offenses

  Fig. I-9 shows trends in the number of cases reported, the number of cases cleared, and the number of persons cleared for arson, kidnapping, forgery, and gambling offenses over the last ten years.

  In 1999, reported cases of arson increased by 162 (10.3%) compared to the previous year, while the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared also increased by 89 (6.5%)and 57 (8.2%) respectively.
  For kidnapping and abduction, the number of cases reported increased by 28 (12.7%), the number of cases cleared by 33 (15.6%), and the number of persons cleared by 23 (16.3%) compared to the previous year.
  For forgery and counterfeiting, the number of cases reported decreased by 781 (8.6%), the number of cases cleared by 837 (9.3%), and the number of persons cleared by 83 (5.8%) compared to the previous year.
  For gambling and lottery, the number of cases reported decreased by 222 (43.1%), the number of cases cleared by 224 (43.5%), and the number of persons cleared by 1,045 (31.0%) compared to the previous year.
  The crime rate in 1999 by type of offense was1.4for arson,0.2for kidnapping and abduction,6.5for forgery and counterfeiting, and0.2for gambling and lottery.   Data on penal code offenses, including those not mentioned in this section, are shown in Appendix I-1 to I-5 .
